First, what not to spray
- Regular hairspray. Most drugstore hairsprays contain alcohol and resins that dry synthetic fiber and leave white flakes.
- Oil sheen and hair oils. Oil sits on top of synthetic fiber instead of absorbing. It looks greasy under light and collects dust, which is the plastic look you are trying to avoid.
- Heat protectant. Pointless on standard synthetic fiber, which cannot take heat anyway.
- Anything labeled for human hair only. Human hair products are built to penetrate a cuticle that synthetic fiber does not have.
Problem 1: The wig looks dull and dry
Friction and washing rough up the fiber surface so it stops reflecting light evenly. The fix is an oil-free shine that smooths the surface without coating it.
